Please be thinking about other dive destinations to which you'd like the club to run trips this year. We can always use new trip ideas and new trip leaders!

Shark Tooth Diving 2009 Trip One - Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25, Venice, FL

Pam is running more of her very popular shark tooth diving trips off of Venice, This first trip is 3 days of diving over Memorial Day Weekend. These trips are being made with Florida West Scuba. The trip is currently full, so if you're not booked you'll have to hope someone bows out. If you haven't seen the kind of artifacts Pam's dives produce, you're in for a treat! Here's an example picture from Florida Web Scuba's web site. Some of the teeth really ARE this big!

Florida West Scuba is located at 509B Tamiami Trail, North Venice, FL. Their phone is 941-486-1400.

The Scubanauts have the whole boat. The trip includes expert tips from retired Archeologist (and Captain) Steve Thacker. (You WILL find something to take home). The hotel rooms are booked starting Friday night. Since Monday is Memorial Day, we're diving Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Trip accommodations are at Best Western Ambassador Suites at 400 Commercial Court just outside of Venice, FL. This is right behind the Holiday Inn Express where we stayed last year. The room includes pool, cable, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee makers in suite and also comes with a complimentary breakfast. We have a late checkout at 1:00pm.

Contact Pam Kurtz or one of your officers for more information

Shark Tooth Diving 2009 Trip Two - June 12-14, Venice, FL

This is the second of the 2009 shark tooth diving trips Pam is running off of Venice, Fl. The trip includes two days of diving. This trip is also full, so again you'll need someone to drop out to have a chance to go if you're not already on it. The actual diving is Saturday and Sunday..

Trip accommodations are again at Best Western Ambassador Suites at 400 Commercial Court just outside of Venice, FL. This is right behind the Holiday Inn Express where we stayed last year. The room includes pool, cable, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee makers in suite and also comes with a complimentary breakfast. We have a late checkout at 1:00pm.

Hotel rooms are booked starting Friday night. We'll be diving Saturday and Sunday.

Note: the actual dive dates are for father's day weekend changed back to 13-14th from the 19th through the 21st. These were the dates which were originally posted for this trip. Contact Pam Kurtz with any questions or concerns.

Pompano, Florida Dive Weekend Trip - July 3-5, 2009

We'll be diving Pompano, Florida 4th of July weekend. The trip can be tailored by those who only want to do part of the dives, so here is the scoop for each piece.

There will be two hotel options:

  • Best Western Deerfield Beach at 1050 E Newport Center Dr Deerfield Beach, FL, 33442. Cost is $88.85 Double occupancy/night. This hotel is newer than The Sands Harbor, but is approximately 5 miles from the boat docks and west of the imtercoastal. It also does have a more friendly cancelation policy than The Sands.
  • Sands Harbor Hotel and Marina at 125 N Riverside Dr Pompano Beach, F,. 33062. Cost is $80.00 Double occupancy/night. The advantage to using this location is that it is very close to either docks that South Florida Diving uses as well as being walking distance to the beach for Fire Works. The hotel management is not giving us a ton of flexibility. So the best package we've negotiated only allows us to cancel a week from out first night stay. The hotel is aging which is another disadvantage of this location.

The schedule will be:

  • Friday PM · Arrive and check in.
  • Saturday AM South Florida Diving (www.southfloridadiving.com) · 8AM 2 tank Dive ($55.00). One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Saturday PM · 1PM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Saturday Night · 6PM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Sunday AM · 8AM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Sunday afternoon · Return to Jacksonville

Rental tanks will be available at $8.00/per tank for air or $12.00/per tank for Nitrox or you can bring your own. Contact Tony Flaris at 210-4550 for further information

Roatan, Aug 29-Sept 5, 2009

The Scubanauts will dive Roatan August 29 September 5, 2009. This is an unofficial trip with individual members booking individually based on just knowing that other club members will be there that week rather than a more tradionally organized club trip. But we'd love to have additional club members go, too.

We are not booking any group airfare. You can use the CoCo View's travel agency (see their web site), or can instead opt to use your own frequent flier miles or book your own flights.

The trip cost does not include alcohol or any side trips. We will be staying at CoCo View Resort. The cost includes 7 nights, 8 days, all meals, two 2-tank boat dives a day, and unlimited shore diving any time day or night. Unlimited Nitrox is approximately $100 per week.

Passports will be required. US dollars are accepted on the island. Bring small denominations.

Some of the available off-site activities include: Dolphin encounters and shark dives, Canopy tour, through the trees on a zip cord Pico Bonito rain forest tour Copan tour - ancient Mayan ruins Roatan island tour Whitewater rafting Roatan Eco Tour, wildlife, history, native cultures Deep sea & flats fishing Botanical gardens, Iguana preserve.

Shark Tooth Diving 2009 Trip Three - October 24th and 25th, Venice, FL

This is the third and last of the 2009 shark tooth diving trips Pam is running off of Venice, Fl. The trip includes two days of diving. Since the date just came open, we do not yet have firm information on the hotel situation. But it should be pretty much the same as the first few trips. Contact Nica McAnany with any questions or concerns.

Annual Scubanauts Christmas Party

Our 2009 club Christmas Party will be on December 11, 2009 and will start at 6:30pm.

By popular demand it will again be at Clark's Fish Camp, who has done a great job of hosting us the past several years.

Pricing will be set when we get closer the event.

Please pass word of any diving indiscretions to Vicky Tyde.

As the current holder of the coveted Golden Copralite award, she's ready to pass it on to our next honoree... (er, victim).
